A joint venture between Western and the Fraunhofer Institute of Chemical Technology in Germany, the Fraunhofer Project Centre at Western is unique in Canada. Established in 2012, it is the leading site for advanced composite materials research and testing at a manufacturing scale for several industrial sectors in North America, including transportation, renewable energy, construction and others.
A global leader in specialty chemicals, LANXESS opened its butyl rubber research and development facility at Western’s research park in 2011. The facility is dedicated to the development of butyl rubber - a versatile, high performance polymer that is biocompatible.
