- In 2013, Western Biology professor Irena Creed was selected by Umeå University as one of the institutions Female Guest Professorships.
- In 2014, Dr. Creed coordinated an international graduate field school on algal blooms at Sweden’s Lake Torneträsk in partnership with Ann-Kristin Bergström of Umeå University
