STUDENT MOBILITY
Student Exchange A student mobility program whereby partner institutions establish a reciprocal agreement which enables students to partake in an academic experience at a host partner institution and pay tuition at their home institution. The program duration is for one to two terms/semesters, a summer or short-term study period. Student exchanges are based on reciprocity with an equal number of students participating in the program from the home and host institutions.

Study Abroad A program of study whereby partner institutions establish an agreement which enables students to register, study, and pay tuition at the host partner institution with credit transferred back to the home institution. The program duration is for one to two terms/semesters, a summer or short-term study period.

Internship, Clinical Field Placement, Practicum An agreement that establishes the principles for a work, clinical, field, or practicum placement abroad, usually working in a pseudo-professional capacity, where the primary motivation is educational. Internships, clinical or field placements, and practicums may be for-credit or non-credit and paid or unpaid.

Faculty-Led Program An agreement that establishes the principles for a structured group learning activity under the supervision of a home-institution faculty member comprising of credit course(s). Educational activities are centered on a portion of the learning taking place abroad, outside the classroom. Students register, pay tuition and program fees to the home institution.

Community Engaged Learning An agreement that establishes the principles for a credit or non-credit activity abroad that emphasizes learning about social issues, and which involves community partners/organizations.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
Joint Academic Program  An integrated degree-awarding program of study established by partner institutions whereby meeting the academic requirements results in students obtaining one degree awarded by one of the participating institutions, or two degrees awarded by each participating institution. Examples include, Cotutelle, Dual Degree, 2+2, 3+1 programs, etc.

Sponsorship An agreement that establishes the principles for funding collaboration, generally related to student recruitment, visiting students, post-doctoral fellows, or scholars.

Academic pathways aim to enhance the transition for international students while maintaining consistency with overall Western admission standards.

RESEARCH
Research Collaboration An agreement that establishes long-term research collaboration in fields which are compatible with the orientation of each institution and which are relevant to the industrial, scientific, social and cultural interests and needs of the countries in which the parties are respectively located.

OTHER
Faculty Exchange  An agreement that establishes reciprocal faculty exchange collaboration under the direction of relevant academic departments at both institutions. Participating faculty continue to be employees of their home institution and serve as visiting faculty at the host institution. NOTE: in most cases a faculty exchange agreement is an accessory to a current International Research Collaboration Agreement, which is referenced in the Faculty Exchange Agreement.

Letter of Intent A non-binding general agreement that acknowledges the intent to explore various forms of institutional collaboration with details specified in separate accompanying agreements, as appropriate, at a later time.
