What is something you’d like to highlight about yourself or a fun fact about you?
A fun fact about me is that I’m a huge football (soccer) fan, I’ve been watching the sport since I was 9 years old. I’m so passionate about it that I would cancel plans just to watch a good match! I also love cooking and take a lot of inspiration from my mom, who has always shown such passion for it.
What’s been a highlight of your Western experience so far?
One of the biggest highlights of my Western experience has been finding a strong sense of community among other Caribbean students. Being able to reconnect with my culture and share experiences with people who understand my background has been incredibly refreshing. Whether through Caribbean Students' Organization (CSO) events or just casual conversations, having that support system has made my time at Western even more meaningful.
Why did you choose Western?
I wanted a university that offered the perfect balance between academic excellence and a vibrant social life. While I had a few options, Western really stood out to me because of its strong sense of community, diverse opportunities, and welcoming atmosphere. From the moment I learned about the campus culture, I felt like it was the right place for me.
Is there anything you’ve found surprising about Canada/Western so far?
One thing that really surprised me about Canada and Western is how diverse and inclusive the environment is. I knew it was multicultural, but experiencing the way different cultures blend so naturally in daily life has been amazing. I was also pleasantly surprised by how much importance is placed on individual expression and open discussion. Whether in class, student organizations, or even casual conversations, people are encouraged to share their perspectives, which creates such a dynamic and engaging atmosphere.
Do you have any advice for new students?
Get involved! Western has so much to offer, from clubs and student organizations to events and networking opportunities. Joining different groups not only helps you build connections but also makes your university experience more fulfilling. There’s something for everyone, so don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and explore what interests you!
