Why I chose Western
At the time, Western was really my main option because my family was already living in London. Looking back though, I’m really glad I ended up here because it gave me opportunities and experiences that I’m really grateful for
My journey here was a little unique because I actually started in Medical Sciences for two years before transitioning into Nursing.
Highlights of my Western experience
One of the most meaningful experiences for me was becoming involved with Global Café and volunteering through Western International. Through those experiences, I met students from many different cultural backgrounds and learned so much from talking with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
I also had the opportunity to support visiting Korean university students as an ambassador during a summer program at Western. It was such a rewarding experience because I got to connect with students who shared my cultural background while also helping them experience life at Western. I even stayed in touch with some of them and met up with them again when I visited Korea this past January.
I think learning about different cultures is really important, especially because we live in such a diverse society. It helps us better understand other people and learn from different perspectives and experiences.
Favourite memories of my time at Western
My favourite memories definitely come from Global Café and volunteering during International Student Orientation. Those spaces helped me connect with people from all over the world and gave me a sense of community on campus. I’m naturally a quieter person, so having welcoming environments like that really helped me branch out and meet people.
An accomplishment I'm especially proud of
I’m really proud that I was able to transition into nursing and continue working toward something I've always wanted to do, even though it took a little longer than expected. Nursing was always something I wanted to pursue, and now I’m finishing my placement and preparing to write the NCLEX exam to become a registered nurse.
A fun fact about me
Every Saturday, I teach Korean language classes to elementary school students through the London Catholic School Board. I love being able to help younger students connect with Korean language and culture, especially those who can speak Korean but haven’t had the chance to learn how to read or write it yet.
My plans for the future
Right now, I’m finishing my final nursing placement and preparing to write the NCLEX exam. After that, I’m hoping to work as a registered nurse, ideally somewhere in or around London, although I’m open to relocating if needed.
In the future, I hope to continue growing in my nursing career while also helping and supporting people in my community. I really enjoy helping and supporting people, and I want to keep building a career where I can do that every day.
My advice for new students
Get involved as early as possible in things that interest you. Joining programs, volunteering and meeting people can really help you build connections and feel more comfortable on campus. But even if you start later, don’t be afraid to get involved — places like Global Café are really welcoming, and it’s never too late to make new connections.
