Connection to Western International

International student & volunteer

Why I chose Western

I chose Western because I knew it was known for its excellent student experience among Canadian universities.

Highlights of my Western experience

One of my favourite memories at Western is being able to contribute my knowledge and skills to student organizations and departments. During the process, I saw a series of positive outcomes and enjoyed a sense of achievement. For example, I supported Western International in producing a convocation interview video and graduate headshots, which received a lot of attention and engagement on Instagram. Those experiences not only improved my production skills but also helped me meet more diverse, amazing people.

An accomplishment I'm especially proud of

I am especially proud of my work with the Western Student Experience team. I assisted with a series of social media video productions and creations, which helped more students feel connected to the Western community.

A fun fact about me

The fact isn’t really about me but about my hometown. Nanjing is actually the sister city to London, Ontario. They signed the twinning agreement in 1997.

My plans for the future

After graduating from Western, I plan to continue my studies through a Master of Digital Transformation and Innovation Concentration UX Design at the University of Ottawa.

In the next five years, I hope to further develop my knowledge and skills in product management and create better user experiences using professional insights.

My advice for new students

Lastly, I want to share some personal experience with those who are currently pursuing passionate careers in this community: Try not to be afraid of making mistakes or changes because you can never completely avoid them. Also, it is usually beneficial to think one step ahead if you can.

Personally, I feel four years at university are too short to accomplish everything. Therefore, at least try the paths you may want to pursue. Embarrassing moments will always happen, but once you find something you are truly interested in, those experiences can support you invisibly even during the hardest periods of time. I hope you enjoy your time here and achieve what you truly desire.
