Impact of my global learning experience
My global learning experience taught me that growth often comes from simply saying yes. Saying yes to moving across the world, navigating unfamiliar places, and building friendships with people whose lives looked completely different from mine. Those moments challenged my perspective far more than any lecture could.
Living in Italy and the United Kingdom made me more adaptable, curious, and confident in who I am. It changed how I approach new experiences and reminded me that the best learning happens when you're willing to be uncomfortable. That lesson is something I hope to share with other students considering their own journey abroad.
Why I chose Western
I chose Western because it offered more than just a degree. It offered a community that encourages students to get involved, explore new opportunities, and grow beyond the classroom. From the moment I arrived, I saw countless ways to challenge myself through leadership, volunteering, and global learning. Those experiences have shaped who I am just as much as my academics, and they continue to inspire me to make the most of everything Western has to offer.
Other highlights from my Western experience.
One of the biggest highlights of my Western experience has been the sense of community. There is a genuine pride that comes with being a Mustang, and it's reflected in how students support one another, get involved, and celebrate each other's successes. Whether it's on campus, at events, or through student organizations, there is a strong sense of belonging that makes Western feel like more than just a university.
A fun fact about me
I love collecting postcards, tickets, and receipts from places I visit. They end up becoming little time capsules of each trip.
My advice for students considering going abroad
As Nike once famously said, "Just do it." You'll never feel 100% ready, and that's the best part. The moments that seem the most intimidating often become the ones you look back on the most. Say yes, take the leap, and let the experience surprise you.
