Impact of my global learning experience

Living and studying in a different country pushed me outside of my comfort zone and helped me become more independent, adaptable, and confident. From learning to live in a new country, to navigating a new education system, to building friendships with people from different backgrounds, I learned how valuable it is to approach new experiences with an open mind.

One of the biggest impacts of my exchange was the opportunity to connect with other students, whether it was in the classroom, in my living accommodation, or at work.

Beyond the classroom, exploring Australia helped me develop a greater appreciation for cultural diversity and the value of stepping outside familiar environments. It has inspired me to travel more and take every opportunity I can to put myself out there.

I hope to be able to share my experience with everyone else who wants to go on exchange.

Why I chose Western

I chose Western because of its strong academic reputation, campus community, and the opportunities it offers both inside and outside the classroom. As a kinesiology student, I was drawn to Western's well-respected program. I also knew I wanted to go on exchange since high school, and being able to live at home during the previous years of my undergrad has helped that happen.

Highlights from my Western experience

Going on exchange was the number one highlight of university so far for me. Besides exchange, however, I have loved my program. Being in kinesiology has allowed me to enjoy learning, and I have especially enjoyed the practical courses.

A fun fact about me

I love trying new foods wherever I travel. One of my favorite ways to experience a new culture is through its local cuisine.

My advice for students considering going abroad

My biggest piece of advice is to say yes to opportunities, even if they feel a little outside your comfort zone. Some of my favourite memories came from trying new things, meeting new people, and exploring places I hadn't planned to visit. It can be intimidating at first, but that's often where the most growth happens.

I would also encourage students to keep an open mind, as every challenge is a chance to learn, and every new experience helps you grow. Going abroad was one of the best decisions I've made, and I would encourage anyone who's considering it to take the leap...you won't regret it.
