Global Experience in

Gold Coast, Australia

Impact of my global learning experience

My exchange semester at Bond University in Australia was one of the most meaningful experiences of my undergraduate degree. Living and studying abroad pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped me become more independent, adaptable, and confident. I had the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds, experience a new culture, and build friendships that made the experience especially memorable. My exchange broadened my perspective, strengthened my communication skills, and taught me the value of being open to unfamiliar experiences and new opportunities.

Why I chose Western

Growing up, Western always felt familiar to me. Both of my parents attended Western, and I remember hearing stories about their time here long before I started applying to universities. When it came time to choose where I wanted to study, I could already picture myself at Western. Looking back, it was the right decision because of the opportunities, friendships, and experiences that have made it feel like home.

Other highlights from my Western experience

Some of the highlights of my Western experience have been getting involved in the campus community through leadership roles, meeting incredible friends, and participating in events that have made Western feel like home. From welcoming new students during OWeek to taking on leadership positions in student organizations, these experiences have allowed me to grow personally, build meaningful connections, and make a positive impact on the Western community.

My advice for new students or students considering going abroad

Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Introduce yourself to new people, try something you've never done before, and remember that everyone else is looking to make friends too.
