Impact of my global learning experience
During my exchange at VUmc in Amsterdam, I participated in the Minor Literature Essay Program, focusing on cancer immunology and personalized therapies. This experience expanded my understanding of how the immune system can be used to treat cancer and how personalized approaches are shaping the future of medicine.
Studying in a different country also challenged me to become more independent, adaptable, and open-minded. I gained a greater appreciation for international collaboration in healthcare and research. Overall, my experience at VUmc strengthened my interest in cancer research while helping me grow both academically and personally.
Why I chose Western
I chose to come to Western because of its strong academic reputation, supportive learning environment, and opportunities to explore my interests in health and science. I was also drawn to the sense of community at Western and the many opportunities to get involved both inside and outside the classroom. I felt that Western would challenge me academically while also allowing me to grow personally and prepare for my future career.
Other highlights from my Western experience
One of the highlights of my Western experience was living in residence during my first year. It gave me the opportunity to meet new people, build lasting friendships, and become more independent. Living on campus helped me adjust to university life and created many memorable experiences outside of the classroom.
A fun fact about me
I have two cats, the oldest one being 19 years old.
My advice for new students or students considering going abroad
My advice for new students is to step outside of your comfort zone and take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way. University is a great time to meet new people, explore your interests, and try experiences you may not have considered before.
For students considering going abroad, I would especially encourage you to go for it. It can feel intimidating at first, but being immersed in a new culture and learning environment is incredibly rewarding. Be open-minded, adaptable, and willing to embrace the experience. You will learn a lot about the world and yourself.
