Involvement with Western International
International Student & Western International Volunteer
Why I chose Western
I chose Western after I had applied to other universities because even though I had not accepted an offer, I got emails about the support that they had for international students. I was coming to a new country without any of my immediate support system like my family or friends. The support that Western has for international students was what made me come here since I felt that I was going to get the support I needed.
My favourite Western memory
My first winter here is something I always remember fondly. I had never seen snow before coming to Canada (or at least that I could remember). I remember being in Saugeen-Maitland Hall and getting my friends to go and play outside in the snow or tobogganing down UC Hill.
An accomplishment I’m proud of
I have been part of Western OWeek since my second year, where I was an Orientation Leader (Soph). Later, I became a Programming Assistant where I supervised the soph team. The orientation program has been a big part of my undergraduate experience, and I gained a lot of new skills while creating friendships that will last a lifetime. It’s been nice to have a positive impact on the student life at Western.
A fun fact about me
I played ice/roller hockey before coming to Canada!
My plans for the future
I hope to obtain a master’s degree. However, I am not sure in what field I am interested in so I would enjoy gaining experience by working in different areas so I can decide which master’s program I would like to pursue. My goal is to get my master’s degree in something I enjoy or having a job that doesn’t keep me attached to a desk.
My advice for new students
If you do badly in a course, it doesn’t define you! I failed chemistry first year and I am still graduating with my honours specialization!
