Why I chose to come to Western

After reading about the amazing student experiences at Western, I decided to tour the campus during the summer. My family and I had a cute picnic at the top of UC Hill, and the more I looked around, the more I fell in love with the campus. I chose to come to Western because I knew I belonged there.

A favourite memory of my time at Western

One summer day, my friends and I went to Karaoke Thursday at The Grad Club. We always enjoyed singing along to the classic hits with the audience—“Sweet Caroline, dun dun dunn!” That time, my two friends and I put our names in the queue to sing. As the music played, the audience heard my nervous, shaky voice: “There’s a fire, starting in my heart…” I thought, you can’t go wrong with Adele.

Line after line, I grew more comfortable—and maybe a little too confident in my voice cracks. My friends’ mic was barely working. Even though the lyrics were right in front of me, I was too slow to read a line and ended up mumbling into the mic. Everyone burst into laughter with me and sang even louder for the rest of the song.

A lot of things went wrong, yet it remains one of my favourite memories. It started a tradition for us—Karaoke at The Grad Club. Not so bad for my first time doing karaoke.

An accomplishment I’m especially proud of

I came to university thinking my classes would be where I did most of my learning—but I was wrong. Alongside the amazing education I received at Western, I also learned lessons I could never have learned in a classroom. From the person I was in my first year to the person I am today—that is an accomplishment I’m proud of. Attending Western gave me experiences that made me resilient. Even though I mostly grew up in Scarborough, when people ask where I grew up, I now tell them, “London.”

A fun fact about me

A fun fact about me is that I love reading and writing poetry. I find it beautiful how poetry can mean something different to each person, even though it is the same collection of words.

My plans for after graduation

After graduation, I plan to travel for a while. I want to immerse myself in different cultures and languages, make new friends, and have a lot of fun. In the next few years, I hope to better understand what my passions are—and hopefully, in five years, I’ll be doing something I truly love.
