Involvement with Western International
International Student & Western International Volunteer
Why I chose to come to Western
I chose Western because of its strong global reputation and cultural diversity. It’s highly ranked and attracts many international students, which made it a great fit for me.
How I would describe my overall Western experience
I would describe my Western experience as empowering, supportive, and transformative. From the very beginning, I felt welcomed and uplifted—whether it was through my professors, classmates, or the community I found at Western International. Volunteering, building friendships, and learning to navigate a new environment on my own helped me grow in confidence and competence. Western gave me not just an education, but a sense of belonging and purpose.
A favourite memory of my time at Western
I’ve had many, but one of my favourites was being featured in Western’s international student brochures and getting involved in events like the Ramadan iftar hosted by Western International. I also formed strong bonds with my cohort, who became like family to me.
An accomplishment I’m especially proud of
I’m very proud of volunteering with Western International. It helped me connect with other students and support them on their journey—just like others helped me.
A fun fact about me
I’m a Guinness World Record holder! I earned it in 2019 for a charitable cause, and it remains one of my proudest achievements.
My plans for after graduation
I’m currently working as a supply teacher with Thames Valley schools, and I plan to continue in education, giving back to the community and helping guide young learners. In five years, I hope to be in a leadership role within a school, mentoring both students and fellow teachers, especially in secondary education where I love working with Grade 11 and 12 students on their career paths.
My advice to new students
Western has been such a supportive place. From academic support to friendships, I’ve received help when I needed it most. For incoming students—never hesitate to ask for help and get involved. You’ll always find support, especially through Western International.
