Why I chose Western
Western stood out for its teaching quality in statistics and mathematics. I had originally planned to study in the UK, but once I switched from accounting to statistics, the programs there didn’t fit. Western’s structure and professors impressed me the most, and that’s why I chose it.
Why I’m interested in math
I’ve always loved numbers. I originally planned to study accounting, but once I discovered statistics, I knew that was the path for me. Within 24 hours of researching the field, I completely switched my focus.
A fun fact about me
I love dressing up for myself. For example, I once wore a fancy red dress (with boots) to a final exam just to celebrate the moment. My philosophy is: if I die, I want to go out in style!
A highlight of my Western Experience so far
The professors and support services. My psychotherapist at Western helped me manage procrastination and became one of my most consistent supports in Canada. I’ve also been fortunate to have professors who share my excitement for learning—sometimes our exchanges in class feel like one-on-one conversations, even with hundreds of students around. Those relationships have been a real highlight.
My plans for the future
I plan to complete my undergrad here, then pursue a Master’s in Applied Statistics—possibly abroad, like in Belgium. My goal is to take full advantage of every resource and opportunity at Western now so I can be ready for whatever comes next.
My advice for new students
Don’t take things personally. Canadians are friendly, but building close relationships can take time. If you’re coming from cultures where community connections are more immediate (like African, Asian, or Hispanic cultures), be patient and don’t let it discourage you.
Final thoughts
I believe sustainability should be part of everyone’s daily lifestyle—it’s not just a course or a program, but the way we choose to live. At my core, I try to do everything out of love, whether it’s my studies, work, or relationships. Everything becomes a little easier when it’s done with passion, love and excitement, and that includes studying.
