Involvement with Western International

International Student & Volunteer

Highlights of my Western experience so far

One of the highlights of my Western experience has been the friendships and connections I’ve made. Whether it’s going out with friends, joining clubs, working on campus, or getting involved in different activities, those experiences have really made my time at Western memorable.

I volunteer with Western International at events such as Global Café and International Week. Through these events, I’ve helped support media and capture moments that showcase the diversity of cultures on campus. It’s been a great opportunity to contribute to the international student community while meeting people from different backgrounds, and to take a refreshing break from studying/classes.

Why I chose Western

I chose Western because of its strong academic reputation and the opportunities it offers outside the classroom. The campus community, clubs, and international student support make it a great place to grow both personally and professionally.

My path to my program

I’ve always found it fascinating how people are influenced by marketing, branding, and the way products are presented. The way advertisements, social media, and brand stories shape our decisions and preferences really interests me. Consumer Behaviour stood out to me because it explores the psychology behind why people choose certain brands and how marketing strategies influence those choices.

Fun facts about me

One thing I’d highlight about myself is my experience as an international student. Moving to a new country pushed me to adapt quickly, meet new people, and step outside my comfort zone, which has helped me grow a lot personally.

Another fun fact about me is that I’ve never had a fracture (touch wood), even after a car once ran over my foot, and surprisingly, nothing happened!

Where I see myself in five years

I’m not completely sure where I’ll be in five years yet, but I hope to be doing something I genuinely enjoy and making the most of the opportunities that come my way. Ideally, I’d like to work in a field related to marketing or consumer insights, where I can apply what I’ve learned and continue to grow.

My advice for new students

Get involved early. Whether it’s volunteering, joining clubs, or attending campus events, those experiences help you meet people, build skills, and make your university experience much more meaningful.

Final thoughts

Being an international student has been a rewarding journey. It has pushed me to step outside my comfort zone, meet people from around the world, and grow both academically and personally.
