International Peer Guide Network

Build Community. Get support. Feel at Home.

All new international students are encouraged to join the International Peer Guide Network to connect with new friends and upper-year peers at Western! Joining this exclusive network will give you access to both virtual and in-person support as you navigate a new cultural, social, and academic environment.

What to Expect:

Joining the International Peer Guide Network means you will:

  • Get access to an online Teams Channel for new international students where experienced student leaders (also known as Peer Guides) will be sharing resources, answering questions, and providing information to help you navigate your first year with ease!
  • Be invited to regular gatherings where you will connect with other new students and get in-person support from Peer Guides. Each event will offer you an opportunity to learn something new as you build community with friends from around the world.

How to Join:

The International Peer Guide Network is divided into two streams , each led by its own team of experienced Peer Guides.

  • New international undergraduate (Year 1) students can join the Undergraduate Peer Network
  • New international graduate (master's & PhD) students can join the Graduate Peer Network

Note: New students will be able to register starting in July 2025 - check back soon!

Volunteer with us!

Our recently redesigned peer support program will continue to connect new international students with upper-year volunteers for support and guidance through their first term at Western, but in a whole new way!

Volunteers will work as a team to support new students both virtually and in-person - sharing useful resources, providing advice, and hosting unique opportunities for students to connect, learn, and grow.

General responsibilities will include:

  • Working with other volunteers to plan, host, and attend in-person events (1-2 afternoons per month on campus)
  • Connecting virtually with new students to share information, resources, and reminders
  • Supporting Western’s International Student Orientation events

Why volunteer?

  • Share your experience! As an upper-year student you have wisdom and advice to share with new international students who are joining Western for the first time.
  • Strengthen your skills! Grow as a leader while developing highly valued skills like intercultural communication, empathy, and mentoring.
  • Expand your social circle! Meet fellow international and Canadian students, build friendships, and become part of a welcoming campus community.
  • Build your resume! Get access to unique professional development opportunities and work towards the Global & Intercultural Engagement Honour.
