International Peer Guide Network
Build Community. Get support. Feel at Home.
The International Peer Guide Network is a community designed to help you feel supported, confident, and connected as you settle into life at Western and in Canada.
Starting a new chapter at Western is exciting — but it can also feel overwhelming. Whether you're adjusting to a new academic system, navigating daily life, or just looking to meet new people, the International Peer Guide Network is here for you.
What to Expect:
Joining the International Peer Guide Network means you'll get access to:
- A dedicated Teams channel where you can connect, ask questions, and get advice from experienced Peer Guides.
- Bi-weekly informal events led by Peer Guides on practical topics like academic success, job searching in Canada, thriving in winter, and staying balanced during your first term.
- Virtual and in-person opportunities, so you can start building connections even before you arrive on campus.
- Tailored support through two streams: the Undergraduate Peer Network or the Graduate Peer Network.
From your first day to the end of your first term, Peer Guides will be here to support you — sharing what they’ve learned, answering your questions, and helping you feel like you belong.

Volunteer with us!
Our recently redesigned peer support program will continue to connect new international students with upper-year volunteers for support and guidance through their first term at Western, but in a whole new way!
Volunteers will work as a team to support new students both virtually and in-person - sharing useful resources, providing advice, and hosting unique opportunities for students to connect, learn, and grow.
General responsibilities will include:
- Working with other volunteers to plan, host, and attend in-person events (1-2 afternoons per month on campus)
- Connecting virtually with new students to share information, resources, and reminders
- Supporting Western’s International Student Orientation events
Why volunteer?
- Share your experience! As an upper-year student you have wisdom and advice to share with new international students who are joining Western for the first time.
- Strengthen your skills! Grow as a leader while developing highly valued skills like intercultural communication, empathy, and mentoring.
- Expand your social circle! Meet fellow international and Canadian students, build friendships, and become part of a welcoming campus community.
- Build your resume! Get access to unique professional development opportunities and work towards the Global & Intercultural Engagement Honour.
