Why I chose to come to Western

I came to Western because I was interested in how the linguistics program operates as an inter-faculty module. After doing more research about this, I thought that it would be super beneficial to be able to take courses across faculties to expand my horizons and tailor my degree according to my interests and future ambitions.

Also, after visiting the Western campus, I immediately fell in love with the architecture of many of the buildings and how much nature there is!

Highlights of my Western Experience

Although I have many fond memories of my time at Western, if I had to choose one then it would be the autumn hike that I went on with my Peer Guide team in October. We had a lovely time walking along the Thames, looking at all of the pretty autumn colours on the trees, taking lots of photos, and enjoying ourselves during a break from midterms. Some of my most favourite memories of my time at Western consist of little moments like this!

An accomplishment I’m proud of

An accomplishment that I am especially proud of is completing my undergraduate dissertation. I had an amazing supervisor and I was fortunate to really improve upon my analytical thinking and writing skills, as well as complete some super interesting research, to create a final product that I am very proud of.

A fun fact about me

I am named after Demeter, the ancient Greek Goddess of the Harvest.

What’s next for me

I am super excited to have accepted a job to teach English in Spain for the next year! I am looking forward to applying all of the things that I have learned at Western to real-world scenarios, while having the opportunity to travel and put my Spanish language skills to the test.

In the future, I hope to continue to learn, grow, and further develop the abilities I have gained from my time at Western. I plan to complete my master’s degree and hope to be doing further research or applying my skills in the field as a speech and language pathologist.
