Why I chose to come to Western

I had heard that Western has excellent media and business programs, which was a perfect fit for me, someone with a mutual interest in both fields.

Highlights of my Western Experience

Joining the university student newspaper, Western Gazette, has been a life-changing experience to me. I’ve spent my three years there, rising through the ranks from Video Intern to News intern to News editor and Editor-in-Chief. It allows me to feel the pulse of the campus and write about things that people care about and advocate for.

An accomplishment I’m proud of

In May 2023, I became the first international student to serve as the Editor-in-Chief at Western Gazette since 1906. In the past year, I am proud that we created the first Climate Issue at the Gazette and took home the Student Publication of the Year award at a national journalism conference. For me, leading and working with a talented and passionate team has been a real pleasure and great learning experience.

A fun fact about me

I order tea or chocolate milk when I say I’m going to grab coffee with someone – I am allergic to coffee!

My plans for after graduation

This summer I am going to work at the editing desk of the Globe and Mail. I am very excited and can’t wait to meet new people and learn new skills. I hope in the future to be working in a national newsroom and be very proud of my work.

My advice for new students

Never underestimate your abilities. Dream big and do whatever you can to get close to it - your endeavors will eventually get you there.
