Scholarships and Funding
Students who are participating in a Western sanctioned international learning experience are encouraged to apply for awards they are eligible for. The list below is not exhaustive, and we encourage students to review the awards below as well as complete their own search of additional funding sources.

Awarded to full-time undergraduate, and graduate students participating in a Western sanctioned international learning experience. Learn more.
Amount: $1,000 or $2,000
International Learning Awards
Deadline to Apply
First Round: December 31
Awarded to full-time undergraduate students who have completed first year, planning an international learning experience in the summer immediately following their first year of studies up until the end of April in their fourth year of studies. If you have a cumulative average of at least 70% with a full-time course load at the end of the most recently completed term, you will be eligible for this award to help finance an international learning experience. A. Dorothy Turvill Undergraduate Language Travelling Fellowship
Deadline to Apply: April 10
Awarded to an undergraduate student entering third or fourth year in an Honors Bachelor degree in either an Honors Specialization in French, German or Spanish; or a Double Major that includes a Major module in one or more of these subjects. Available to students in Faculty of Arts and Humanities
Amount: $2,500 for study in Europe and $500 for study in Quebec
Archaeological Dig Travel Award
Deadline to Apply: April 15
Awarded to a full-time graduate or undergraduate student in a Classical Studies program, based on academic achievement and financial need, to assist with travel costs to an archaeological site or archive. Preference is given to graduate students, but undergraduates are encouraged to apply. Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem Awards
Deadline to Apply: March 15
Awarded to graduate or undergraduate students in any year of any program who wish to participate in a Western sanctioned international learning experience at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, based on demonstrated financial need and academic achievement.
Amount: Up to $10,000 for full-year undergraduate study. Up to $5,000 for one term of graduate or undergraduate study. Up to $3,000 for summer undergraduate study or non-credit learning experiences.
Catherine Mary Bowie Travelling Award
Deadline to Apply: April 30
For a full-time undergraduate student entering third or fourth year of an Honors Bachelor degree in either an Honors Specialization in French Language and Literature or a double Major including French. For more information and the application visit the Department of French. Available to students in Faculty of Arts and Humanities
Amount: $3,600
Cowin Scholarship (Bond University, Australia)
Deadline to Apply: December 1
Students receive this funding through the Cowin Scholarship Program, made possible thanks to the generous donation of Western alumni and our Chancellor, Mr. Jack Cowin. In order to receive this funding students must apply, interview, and be accepted for the Bond University exchange program. Diana Beattie Exchange Scholarship

Awarded to a student in any year of any program in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, who is participating in an authorized international exchange program, based on academic achievement. Available to students in Faculty of Arts and Humanities

Eve Harp & Judith Wiley Classical Studies Travel Award
Deadline to apply: N/A
For graduate or undergraduate student in Classical Studies, to assist with travel costs for research at libraries or sites anywhere in the world, but especially Greece or Italy. Based on academic merit. Preference will be given to graduate students. Available for students in Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

Faculty of Health Sciences Clinical Education Placement Travel Subsidy
Deadline to Apply: N/A
Students in the Schools of Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Kinesiology, and the Bachelor of Health Sciences program that incur costs for living and travel expenses beyond the norm as a result of their participation in clinical placements that are an integral part of their academic programs. Available to students in Faculty of Health Science

Geophysics Travel Scholarships

Awarded to an undergraduate student in the Honors Specialization in Geophysics who is travelling to a scientific conference to present their thesis research. Available to students in Faculty of Science, Honors Specialization in Geophysics

German Exchange Travelling Fellowship

Awarded to full-time Western students selected to participate in a Western sanctioned exchange program in Germany.

Igor Lukac Engineering Award
Deadline to Apply: September 30
Awarded to a full-time student entering their final years (3,4,5) in the Integrated Engineering Program. Preference will be given to a student in the combined BESc (Integrated Engineering) and HBA degree program and/or who has international exchange or study-abroad experience. Available to students in Faculty of Engineering
Amount: $1,000
Ivey Foundation Awards for International Exchange Program
Awarded to upper-year, full-time undergraduate students who have applied and been accepted for a fall and/or winter term International Exchange Program. Students must have an 80% minimum average and will be evaluated on their overall academic record, participation in extracurricular activities and financial need.

Jacob Family International Study Award
Deadline to Apply: N/A
Awarded to an undergraduate student in any year of any program wishing to study abroad or on exchange for a minimum of one semester, based on the greatest demonstrated financial need and academic achievement (minimum 80% average). Preference will be given first to a student participating in an exchange to a partner institution in Israel, then to a student studying at an accredited university in Israel. Preference to full-year student over one-semester.

John D. Schussler Travelling Award
Deadline to Apply: N/A
Awarded to a student participating in a Western sanctioned exchange program in Germany. Preference will be given to a student registered in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.

Killam Fellowship (Exchange program with the Killam Mobility Program)
Deadline to Apply: December 17
Students must complete an exchange application in Atlas, Western’s international experience database, and be accepted to participate in the program in order to receive this funding. More information can be found on Atlas, Western's international experience database.
Amount: $5,000-$10,000 USD
National Scholarship Study Abroad Awards

For a National Scholarship recipient who has been accepted into a Western sanctioned international learning experience.
Amount: $2,500 for up to 4 months (one term), $5,000 for over 4 months (more than one term)
Robert T. Jones, Jr. Foundation Scholarship (University of St. Andrews, Scotland)
Deadline to Apply: December 1
Awarded to students who have applied, interviewed and been accepted to participate in the exchange program to University of St. Andrews in Scotland. SASAH Travel Award

Awarded annually to undergraduate students enrolled in the School for Advance Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, based on academic achievement, to assist with travel costs for study/research at sites/institutions anywhere in the world Available to students in Faculty of Arts and Humanities

Sir Charles Edward Saunders-Mary Eileen Anderson Awards

Awarded to Western students entering the French Studies Department's third-year abroad program in France (Nice-Exchange) or third-year at Laval Program. A minimum average of 75% in French courses is required. Available to students in Faculty of Arts and Humanities
Value: $1,500 for study in Nice and $500 for study at Laval
Sun Light Foundation International Exchange Award

Awarded annually to students registered at Western who are participating in an approved exchange program at a partner university. Students that receive any other exchange scholarship or fellowship are not eligible.

The Third Year in Nice Study Abroad Award
Deadline to Apply: N/A
Awarded in September to full-time undergraduate students who are participating in the Canadian Third Year in Nice Program during the year they receive the award and who have maintained an average of at least 70% in the previous year.

Virginia Harris Exchange Scholarship
Deadline to Apply: September 30
Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student in the Faculty of Arts, Science, Social Science, Health Sciences, Information and Media Studies, Music or Engineering, who is participating in an outbound exchange program, based on academic achievement (minimum 80% average) and demonstrated financial need.
Amount: $2,000
Western Study Abroad Bursaries
Deadline to Apply: October 31
Awarded to undergraduate students participating in a formal exchange/study abroad program, who demonstrate financial need.
Value: $1,000 or $2,000
Wilfred and Zeta O'Donnell Travelling Fellowship
Deadline to Apply: April 10
Awarded to full-time or part-time Western undergraduate students who have completed two years of an Honors BA with either an Honors Specialization or double Major modules in the Department of Classical Studies, French Studies, or Modern Languages and Literatures. William C. Heine International Study Fellowship
Deadline to Apply: March 1
The William C. Heine International Study Fellowship is awarded to one full-time undergraduate student entering Year 3 in the Media, Information and Technoculture program (including modules in Media and the Public Interest) who will be studying in a country other than Canada for a time of no less than one term. Students must have a minimum of 75% academic average. Available to students in Faculty of Information and Media Studies – Media, Information, and Technoculture program.
Amount: $3,500
