All students, staff and faculty planning international travel should take the initiative to learn about their host country and take reasonable precautions to ensure they stay healthy and safe. This includes becoming familiar with Western's Safety Abroad Policy.

Western has also invested in International SOS (ISOS) , a worldwide service available 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, should you need emergency assistance. ISOS also provides information and resources to help you plan your trip.

Steps for travelling internationally on University sanctioned* activities:

* University sanctioned international travel refers to any activities involving travel outside of Canada that have been approved, authorized, and/or supported by a Western University unit, department, staff, and/or faculty member.

Students, please consult Western's glossary of International Learning terms to determine if your travel falls within these parameters.

Western values the international collaborations and research of its faculty members and students. It also recognizes, understands, and appreciates the heightened risk that some individuals experience when conducting field work abroad. As a result, Western has a wide range of strategies and resources in place to deal with critical international incidents. Among these resources, Western is a member of International SOS which provides advice and services to members regarding safe travel and emergency evacuation. Western also has comprehensive insurance coverage and a Campus Police service that has experience in dealing with international embassies and the RCMP. Western is prepared and has been proactive in mitigating the risks assumed by our faculty in doing international work.
