Foundations for International Mobility & Engagement
Foundations for International Mobility & Engagement (FIME) is a series of six online learning modules designed to prepare students for international learning experiences including exchange, research, internship, community engaged learning, or study opportunities.
CREDITS
These modules were developed in collaboration between various departments at Western University including Western International, The Student Success Centre, The Teaching Support Centre, along with local and international partners including Aga Khan University and Sexual Assault Centre of London. This initiative was supported and funded by eCampusOntario.
TERMS OF USE
Western University will retain full intellectual property rights on the modules, and a royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-sublicensable, non-transferrable and irrevocable license will be granted to eCampus Ontario. Permitted use will include re-use of the module by publicly assisted colleges and universities within the province of Ontario. The module is intended to be used for educational purposes only, and will not be used for commercial purposes by any institutions with the exception of Western University. Those who use these modules in any way must provide credit to Western University, in a way that does not suggest Western University endorses them or their use.
Unless otherwise specified, content on Foundations for International Mobility and Engagement is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International.
MODULES
This series of modules is intended for all levels of study including undergraduate and graduate students. It is also intended for faculty and staff who conduct research abroad or who supervise student groups who are participating in international learning experiences.
Each module was developed as part of the Foundations for International Mobility and Engagement series and it is recommended that they are accessed and viewed together to comprehensively prepare learners for international learning experiences. However, each module can be used as a standalone resource or as a supplement for pre-departure orientation or related courses.
The modules can be viewed and/or downloaded for integration within a learning management system. For optimal downloading of the files, it is recommended to use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox web browsers.
Module 1 - Travel
This module will cover the key practicalities for learners participating in international learning experiences, including essential documentation needed for travel, requirements and recommendations from government services, and general travel safety tips.

Module 2 - Health & Wellness
This module enables learners to think about their own mental and physical wellness while abroad. It also provides general health tips and recommendations that are beneficial for all travellers

Module 3 - Risk Management
This module provides basic safety abroad steps for learners to consider before they depart and important information on how to stay safe while abroad.

Module 4 - Intercultural Engagement
This module encourages learners to begin to think about themselves in an international context and will introduce concepts of culture, cultural self-awareness, cultural identity, and the cultural adjustment process to prepare them for intercultural engagement.

Module 5 - Gender Norms & Sexual Violence
This module equips and educates learners about issues of sexual violence. Through the exploration of gender norms, consent, and bystander interventions, this module will assist learners in decreasing their risk of experiencing sexual violence and give them the tools to react if a sexual assault does occur.
