Western is focused on becoming a global leader in international education. As part of this international strategy the Staff International Engagement Working Group (SIE) is developing opportunities for Western staff to participate and lead initiatives that reach beyond our campus.
To encourage global awareness and impact, Western’s staff international engagement group is establishing partnerships with several leading development organizations. We invite you investigate how to become involved and share your talents aimed at benefiting society and increasing our collective global awareness.
Staff Members Elan Paulson, Director of Professional Education Programs, Faculty of Education and Keith Marnoch, Director of Media and Community Relations went abroad on International Staff Exchange opportunities. Read about their amazing experiences via their blogs.

"Experiencing five Universities in The Netherlands has been amazing but I feel like I thought about and reflected more about my own university - and myself - through these interactions I have had over these past few weeks. I feel privileged to have done an international staff exchange and will be forever grateful to those who granted me this gift. I may be over-stating it, but I feel like exposing myself fully to the Dutch culture and lifestyle allows me to say I have not just visited but rather ‘lived’ here for a very short period of time. We Canadians and Dutch people have much in common - all of it very positive."

Consider getting involved by volunteering on the SIE Working Group or Ambassador Sub Committee. There is an email sent out to staff in December of every year to request expression of interest if you would like to join the SIE committeee.
SIE Working Group
In addition to the one-hour monthly meetings, SIE members are expected to participate in an SIE sub committee. This may involve reviewing applications and interviewing staff members for the Leave for Change or Western Staff International Exchange Program, or representing SIE at various campus events such as International Week and Staff Conference Week.
The Ambassador Sub Committee also meets monthly to explore and offer broader opportunities for staff to develop as global citizens, such as the Internationally-themed lunches. Ambassadors are also expected to participate in spreading the word about various SIE initiatives to their colleagues.
Applications are open for 2020/21 Western Staff International Exchange Program (WSIEP)
WSIEP offers participants the opportunity to broaden their professional perspectives through global job-shadowing experiences at participating host institutions. Applications for travel between May 1, 2020 - April 30, 2021 are now open.
