How to achieve the Global Honour
The Global Honour is a self-directed program that requires students to complete ONE activity from each of the three categories below.
Supporting documents required: You will be required to submit documentation for each activity as part of your application in Atlas. Acceptable proof includes:
- unofficial transcripts
- certificates of completion
- letters of verification from a supervisor (an email confirmation may be acceptable in some cases)
- claim form if you are unsure if your activity is eligible (available in Atlas)
Category 1: Globally-Focused Courses
Complete one Western course (0.5 or 1.0 credit) or one non-academic course with a global or intercultural context. Proof of completion is required.
- Wide range of courses with international/intercultural learning.
- See the list of past eligible courses (reference only, subject to change).
- For courses not listed, please contact goabroad@uwo.ca.
- Examples: Coursera, Class Central, SDG Academy, or other online programs.
Category 2: International Experience at Home & Abroad
Gain experience at home or abroad with a significant global or intercultural component. Minimum: 50 hours (at home) or 2 weeks (abroad).
- Roles at Western International such as International Learning Ambassador, International Peer Guide, and English Conversation Leader
- Volunteer for International Student Orientation or International Week
- Virtual Internships with Western International
- Global Ambassador (King's), Ivey Exchange Buddy (Ivey)
- Volunteer with a local international or intercultural organization that serves multicultural groups and provides the opportunity to interact with individuals from various cultural backgrounds (previous examples include AIESEC and the London Cross-Cultural Learner Centre
- Serve in an executive role (President, Vice-President, Year Rep) of a global or cultural-focused student club or group at Western
- COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning)*
*May also count for category 1, but cannot be double-counted.
Category 3: Intercultural Skills & Training
Participate in workshops, training, or language learning to strengthen global/intercultural skills.
- Global Learning & Education module in OWL
- Language courses at Western or abroad
- Activities from the Indigenous Learning Honour
- Workshops from SDG Academy or EDI learning
